Most sportsmen and outdoor enthusiasts are looking for only the best possible products for their hunting and scouting. It’s critical to know and understand all the features on your equipment and the Stealth Cam G34 is packed with options, features, and hardware to impress. With a great 12MP camera sensor, multiple resolution settings, and HD video recording, you’ll almost certainly find something to meet your needs.
With a maximum 32GB SD card you’ll have the option to choose whether or not to overwrite old data if the card fills up using settings on the camera itself. For the most control of your data storage options, you’ll want to set the recording resolutions which range from 12MP all the way down to 2MP. The lower resolution you choose, the more photos and video the SD card will be able to store. Of course, this comes with a trade-off in photo and video quality.
To get the most information about your scouting locations, you’ll need to take advantage of the adjustable video recording settings. Choose from 5-180 seconds of recording at a time with optional audio. Time lapse and burst shot modes come fully featured with 1-9 image burst mode and adjustable recovery / time-out modes. Set up time lapse mode with PIR override so that the camera is sure to never miss a movement.
For security and protection, the G34 comes with the ability to set a secure password which is always a great consideration if you’re setting the camera up in a high traffic area or an area that might be used by others such as public lands. With 34 IR LEDs, the camera is capable of illuminating and capturing images up to 80ft away though we suggest you set the camera in a location where the game is likely to be 50ft or less from the camera for optimal images.
If you’re planning to archive and track the habits of your game, taking advantage of the time, date, moon, temp, and geo-tagging features will be critical. For hunters with more than one camera, you can even set each camera to have a name such as “West End of Field” or some other designator. On that note, the G34 is also multi-lingual out of the box with English, French, German, and Spanish preloaded.
With so many great features and options, the beginner user or users with more simple needs can just use one of several preset options to get the camera setup and running quickly. Toss in 8 AA batteries or hook up the trail camera to a 12V external power pack for long lasting performance.
What I Like
Quick setup menu is a great option for getting started yet this camera features high-end options and settings for the more discerning user who understands and wants full control of camera settings. With password protection and security camera mode, this trail cam can quickly convert to function as a subtle yet effective high-resolution security camera. I love the versatility displayed by the G34.
With photo and video tagging features such as time, date, moon, and more – this camera is ready for recording really detailed information on all of your hunting or scouting locations. Advanced users will find that feature, as well as the PIR triggered time lapse mode and adjustable burst shot modes, to be highly adjustable for dialing in the usefulness of the camera.
Less than a half-second camera trigger is pretty much industry standard and this camera delivers. Short trigger times are great for ensuring the most crisp and clear shots of moving game. Of course, the 12MP camera and sensor are critical in achieving clear shots and the on-board Matrix Advanced Blur Reduction helps to sharpen up images when game is moving.
What I Dislike
There’s very little to be critical of here but the battery hungry 8 AA operation is something that most users will find adds up quickly. Good batteries are expensive and users may want to consider using an external 12V battery for longer operation and efficiency.
I’d really like to see this camera come with more physical safety features and attachment points for locks. The shell looks fragile enough to be easily broken in to and there’s little to anchor a cable or chain to.
Who Is This Good For?
Amazingly, this camera is simple yet powerful enough to be a great option for beginners while simultaneously allowing room for the advanced user to grow into more complex settings. For hunters or scouts needing a powerful, high resolution, and robust game camera that can do it all with ease, the G34 can step up to the plate with a 12MP camera, full HD video, and enough tracking and archival data to really help keep scouting photos organized when juggling multiple sites or locations. Overall, this is a great choice to fit a wide range of needs and skill levels.
