Waterfowl are some of the most popular kinds of game to hunt. They are literally everywhere. From Europe to Russia to The Pacific Northwest all the way down to Latin America, these birds know how to travel. That is why we want to highlight some of the most important waterfowl being hunted today. If you’ve ever asked yourself, “What different types of birds make up a ‘list of waterfowl’?” then we have the answer for you!
List of waterfowl:
Ducks- When you think of water fowl hunting, you probably do think of ducks. I know I do. They are the most popular type of waterfowl to hunt. Ducks are also probably your best bet if you are looking to get started with waterfowl hunting. If you are new to duck hunting, we’ll get you started with the basics of duck hunting.
Mallard: The mallard duck is definitely the most popular duck to hunt. Mallards can be found all over the U.S. though they do migrate heavily to the south during winter months. Mallards are happy to set up in fresh, or salt water; in wetlands, lakes, ponds, rivers, and even shallow inlets along the coast.
Blue Winged Teal: Another duck with differing male and female appearances, you can find these ducks breeding in the prairie lands of the Midwestern United States.:
Gadwall: These ducks have dark colored feathers ranging from black to brown to dark red. They are found in the southern part of the states and are medium sized.
American Black Duck: Similar to mallards in size, these ducks are black with white wings and a yellow beak. These can be found all the way from Mississippi all the way up to the American Northwest
Ruddy Duck: With the strange appearance with a stocky body and chubby wings and a blue beak, these ducks can also be found in the prairies of the Midwest and some in the highlands of Mexico.

Wood Duck: With an interesting looking head containing black and white patterns, this duck breeds in the central and eastern united States. It has a white belly, a burgundy throat and black feathers.

Geese-
Canadian Goose: With a black head and neck, as well as light gray wings and a white body, the Canadian goose is well known throughout North America. These herbivorous geese feed in agricultural lands. They are one of my favorite geese to hunt, Click here for some more details on hunting geese.
Lesser Snow Goose: Having either a dark blue plumage or a white plumage, these geese breed in the Northwest and Northeast corners of North America
Greater Snow Goose: These geese are a larger version of the lesser snow goose. These geese also breed in many parts of Canada
Brant: Brant geese are small with a small black heads and bills, and a short neck. The male and female plumages are identical. There are two subspecies of Brant from the East and West Coasts. They inhabit Colonies in the arctic regions of the world and tend to migrate to California and Mexico on the west coast, as well as parts along the East coast ranging from Massachusetts and North Carolina.
Cackling Goose: A species that looks much like the Canadian goose, the cackling geese have slightly different habits and breeding tendencies.

Swans-
